Pupil behaviour no better than satisfactory in fifth of England's secondaries

After inspecting the equivalent of 574 secondary schools, the Department for Education concluded that 18.4 % of the pupil behaviour is either satisfactory or inadequate. That means that almost one in five secondaries were rated no better that satisfactory or inadequate. Last year the number was 21.3 %, a slight improvement. A concerned school minister, Nick Gibb comment: ‘Shift the balance of authority back towards teachers and schools’. The schools with the best pupil behaviour are found in Gateshead in north-east England, and Bury in Greater Manchester. Knowsley in Merseyside and Hull in east Yorkshire only have a quarter of secondary schools with good or outstanding pupil behaviour.

I think it is good to rate the pupil behaviour every year and that it is good news that the behaviour of secondary pupils in England is rated better than last year. The behaviour of pupils says everything about how the school rules, and as a future teacher you should be aware of this variety. I think I would teach part time at a school with good or outstanding behaving pupils and the rest of the week I will have a challenge teaching at a school with students who have a, according to the Department of Education, satisfactory or inadequate behaviour.

Royal wedding: Prince William and England are lucky to have Kate Middleton

Royal wedding; Prince William and England are lucky to have Kate Middleton

Tomorrow, middle class, Kate Middleton will be married to her Prince. No more ‘Waity Katy’, as she was called because it took her a while to get the actual ring on her finger. Once someone said to her that she must be lucky to have Prince William, on which she responded to with: ‘He must be lucky to have me’. Kate has the incredible ability to read William’s feelings and her intuitive gets him in a way no one else does. She will be the first royal bride who lived with her husband before marriage and the bride to have a university degree.

Royal weddings aren’t what they used to be: big, dramatic, over the top, posh, glamorous, hip and happening. Though nowadays it seems more common. Is it because the Prince of whales is to be married to a common girl or is the royal flair fading away? Why do the next generation royalties wants to blend in with the common people? I wonder, is this the beginning of the end of the kings and queens?

Rafael Nadal beats Murray to reach Monte Carlo final

Beginning the semi-finals with a small arm injury, Andy Murray suffered his tenth defeat in fourteen matches against Rafael Nadal in Monte Carlo. The match started twenty minutes later because of Murray his injury. Though after the match Andy comment that it wasn’t the reason why he lost. The British number one thought it was a good match and that Nadal is clearly the best player of the world for a reason. He also says: "It's good to know you're able to play at a similar level to what he does on the clay. To win against him, you need to be able to do that for three-and-a-half hours, four hours.”

Tennis is something I occasionally follow, but only the big tournaments like the Australian Open, Wimbledon, Roland Garros and the US Open. I missed this match but by just seeing the opponents it is not hard to predict the winner. Rafael Nadal rules the top for a long time now, with Roger Federer by his side of course. Number three is Novac Djocovic and Andy makes a good number four. They are all very good tennis players but it is not fun watching a game when you already know who will win the game.

Lord Ashdown: George Osborne's AV attacks 'bizarre'

On the fifth of May there will be a referendum in the UK about whether the choosing system must change. They now use the first past the post system, where the election is won by the candidate with the most votes. This can be changed into the alternative vote system, where the voters rank the candidates. The candidate who gained more than fifty per cent of the votes wins. Lord Ashdown, former leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, accused current Chancellor of Exchequer, George Osborne, of frighten the public into voting pro keeping the first past the post system.

I think the first past the post system should not be changed. I think it’s a good and fair system to choose a prime minister. Though I love the show around an election or in this case a referendum. Mud is thrown, names are called and the opposite parties can drink the blood of each other. I just like the drama in politics and the age-old battle between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives.

Why do men shout at women in the street?

According to Northeastern University associate professor of sociology Kathrin Zippel, men shout at women in the street to prove their masculinity.
‘Street harassment’ they call it, the members of the American ‘Hollaback’, and the new UK version: ‘Anti-Street Harassment UK’. Men whistle, catcall and even grope to women in the street, and the only way to respond to it is to ignore it. Though by ignoring the street harassment it’ll allow men to continue. That’s where the Anti-Street Harassment UK comes in. They offer women forums in which women can share their experiences, share photos of their harassers and view maps of where previous incidents have occurred.

To comment this article, I think it is good that they started an organization to help women who feel harassed by men shouting in the street. They can share their experience and maybe one day stand-up to these men. Though I still want to know why men feel the need to prove their masculinity with shouting at women in the street, why can’t they just have a spitting contest or shout at each other?

Youth stabbed in front of younger brother in Edmonton

A fifteen year old boy was stabbed while he was protecting his little brother. The boy eventually died in the hospital of his wounds. It was called a selfless act. The teenager was decribed as an itelligent and mature boy and was about to celebrate his sixteenth birthday. The police have found four possible offenders, whom they have arrested. This all took place in Edmonton where he is now the fourth teenager who has been stabbed to death this year. The family of the victim say that they hope his death is not in vain. An occupant where the incident took place comments: ‘The gangsters are getting out of control.’

My oppinion on the subject of the teenage boy who was stabbed and died, is that the incident is very serious and sad. Though, I have my doubts about the news which is given. Why do they talk about only the victim and not why this teenage boy had to protect his little brother? In the end an occupant comment something about gangsters, so maybe the teenager was a gangster and he had it comming? The new is giving from just one point of view, so there has got to be more to this story.
