Cadbury's Naomi Campbell ad campaign 'not racist'
‘Move over Naomi there is a new diva in town’, was the new advert of Cadbury’s Bliss range of Dairy Milk chocolate. Past tense because the company agreed to withdraw this when they found out Naomi Campbell was shocked by it. Deeply upset even told the mother of the super model, who thinks the advert is racist. Thee chocolate company defended their advertisement by saying that with the line they refer to the diva behavior Campbell is known for, instead of the color of her skin. The Advertisement Standards Authority agreed with Cadbury.
It is beyond me that a super model with already a reputation of a diva and a criminal record could pull this of. I mean, apparently she still have a reputation of getting things done her way. Though I also think, ethically, that the Cadbury company should have asked for her consent to use her name in their advertisement. Especially when they use the negative side of the celebrity. I wouldn’t like it if they use my name in a bad way for advertisement to sell their product, even when I’m not aware of it. In a way Naomi linked her name to a product she did not consent to or even was aware of.
I don’t think you can associate the ad with racism.
